Recently, Index Ventures together with Atomico (Nicklas Zennström’s venture firm), Janus Friss and The Accelerator Group invested €5 million Series A financing on Netlog. Netlog is the 115th most popular website on earth. A quick registration (No kidding. I had to skip numerous steps.) showed that none of my friends are using this (from my gmail, hotmail list). That’s because out of the 17.5 million registered European users, only 3.2 million users use the English version.
Netlog has actually been around for some while as Redbox and Facebox and after the name change, they garnered around billion views a month (aggregating all their sites across Europe).
It’s annoying to see many general social networking sites around that are making tonnes of money. It’s becoming quite stale, but if only we started to itemize these networks…
