Podcamp Europe

Just got back after a tiring day. Had two presentations, one at company and one at Podcamp Europe. I was slightly nervous before my Podcamp presentation because I didn’t know how an unconference crowd would react to my presentation about media landscapes in Singapore but fortunately it went okay. I wish I had spoken more about the region in general but that would require more time. Unfortunately, I couldn’t link Justin over via video/audio feeds because the wireless connection wasn’t that good. We had to switch between couple of networks off and on. What a bummer! It would have been so cool to have him co-talk and co-comment on several points and questions that were brought up. The venue was also quite noisy!

Also had the opportunity to catch up with some friends. I stayed on till the after-party at Nalen with Ruiwen, Brenda, Gitta, Lotta, Fredrik and Mattias. Martin and Anton from Primelabs were there too. The after-party was excellent. Free flow of food, alcohol and live music. =) Couldn’t have asked for a better night could I?

Lotta, Gitta and Anton liveblogged during the event. Ruiwen came in slightly late and also blogged a bit about it. Follow the Lotta’s Flickr stream here.

Hey hey. I will be presenting at Podcamp Europe tomorrow afternoon on Social and Media landscapes in Singapore. I initially wanted to speak about the landscape in the region in general but due to time constraints, I only focused on Singapore.

Guess what! The two backchannels for the conference are up and running. Catch up with the latest at the onelinr and jaiku channels for the event.

See you there! It’s going to be lots of fun.

Reboot 2007

Ahh the good times all come rushing back to me. There is another killer conference going on here in Scandinavia called Reboot. Co-organised by two people, one of them Polar Rose CEO and Hej! 2007 speaker Nikolaj Nyholm, Reboot has the killer web 2.0 community and applications integrated in one setting. The focus this year is “Human”.

Neways, good buddies Eric, Alex and Bjorn are speaking there. Another bud, Ruiwen, is tracking, the conference via second degree blogging from Stockholm.

If it wasn’t for my pesky presentation tomorrow, I would have joined in on the fun in Copenhagen. Bleah.

[Updates]

More fun stuff, Plazes CEO Felix Petersen apparently got ‘caught‘.

If you have missed or haven’t heard of the D: All Things Digital 2007 conference, SHAME ON YOU! In essence, I have compiled some of the few interesting moments from the event:

  1. With all those power brokers within close proximity, there has to be some awkward moments
  2. Kara Swisher vs Michael Arrington. Feud?
  3. Demo of Maholo, an initiative by Jason Calacanis (formerly with AOL). Read Techcruch’s coverage here.
  4. Microsoft Announces Surface Computer. Duh.
  5. Live blogging - Jeff Hawkins
  6. Live blogging - Steve Jobs
  7. Live blogging - Steve Ballmer
  8. AppleTV to show youtube videos. You call this content?
  9. Steve Jobs vs Bill Gates. Gizmodo’s coverage here. Engadget here

If you guys know more silly, big, interesting moments from D 2007, pop me a note.

Excitera’s Innovation Challenge ‘Live’

This coverage is brought to you by Ramkumar Shankar and me, during the Excitera’s Innovation Challenge final round presentations 2007. We took turns blogging while the other person stretched his legs or yawned or fidgeted. Both our teams qualified to the finals of this competition. We sat on the first row…busy blogging away. We were the only ones with a laptop there… ;)

Here’s what my team won:

  • 75,000 SEK and also support to start a company.
  • 100,000 SEK in ear-marked funds for founding a company.
  • An offer to join the incubator IQube.
  • Free telecom infrastructure from Telenor during the company’s first six months of existence.

6.20pm
Opening speech by head organiser. The tone is set. It’s all in Swedish from now on. =( Why can’t organisers like Excitera or SSES etc organise something in English for a change? This would be excellent for a more global crowd. ;)

6.25pm
Next up, is Ericsson’s Head of Innovation. Nice colourful ppt slides but he mentioned the hackneyed word “User Generated Content” =(
He speaks about the mobile phone as a wallet.
Ahh more market research. Some consulting firm brainfarted these numbers I guess. Ahh yes, it’s Gartner.

6.28pm
Oh no! More numbers! His talk on youtube reminds me of bubblare, a Swedish look a like
Example: SeeMe TV. They pay customers 0.01 pounds whenever a user video is downloaded. Service to expand.1.2 million pounds from 12 million video downloads. Interesting concept.
Ahh more colourful ppts. AND User Generated Content AGAIN!
Next slide, empower the consumer.Mobscene example. Interesting widgets.

6.30pm
This is getting interesting. I don’t understand one word he’s saying but his ppt says it all.
Integration of TV services. Mobile Joost in the future?
Everyone is reading his slides. There’s too much information there!

6.32pm
Ahh it took him 15 minutes to start on Ericsson. Nice on him.
World’s first Trial Interactive Mobile TV
World’s first Trial Personalised Mobile TV Advertising
He seems very excited – lots of hand movements
A mention on Click Through Rate
He’s still on the same slide =(

6.37 pm
MMS GPRS stuff
Best revenue model is from Ericsson! Yeah!

6.38 END!

Hej! 2007 experience

Hej folks

I understand that there might be more internet or web2.0 or blogging or technology conferences in the future here in Stockholm. My friends and I would be very delighted to share our experience in organising Hej! 2007 within a very short period of time. Pop me an email if you’re interested and we would be glad to be of any help.

Cheers.
