Amazon launched their much anticipated online music store Amazon MP3.  The name doesn’t impress but what impresses the most is the fact that the songs would be DRM-free. So does this mean that we’re allowed to download/copy/transfer the songs to multiple computers, burn, rip, cut, paste etc? Well yes to a certain extent. The good thing is that most big label players have signed up. The bad news is that only selected segments of their catalog will be up for purchase.

As for me, well I don’t care. I don’t download nor buy my music (online) anymore. I have my Spotify and it’s more than enough. A perfect world for me would be where one will have unlimited access to a wide variety of music for free, with some third party footing the bills :)

Online social networking meets media editing in Jaycut. Guys, there might be some element of bias in this post because, well, I know the guys at Jaycut and they’re cool. ;)

Just spoke to Jonas from the Jaycut team and I was told that the service will be available for public viewing later this week. This is good news because their service has been getting alot of attention after their participation in the Venture Challenge in San Diego and at Hej! 2007.

Unfortunately, one will have to be invited by one of the current users to create an account, which I think is good thing because it will assist scalability.

I checked out the service and first impressions are simple and easy to use. It’s collaborative by nature and you can edit any sort of media you want. They’re doing a fantastic job so far. They just got featured as Europe’s Young Entrepreneurs 2007 at Business Week. They look all set for a very big sell out in the future.

Below, I have embedded an introductory video on using Jaycut. It’s funny because Jonas was unaware of it being publicly available when I showed it to him. Neways, that’s him in the video. It’s in Swedish btw. So is their blog.

Spotify: The revolution has started

I am currently beta testing Spotify’s music streaming service and here’s the take: Be prepared to be blown away!

Yes, there are some minor irritating and annoying UI problems and stuff but that’s what the beta testing is all about. Had a chat with Andreas, the CTO, during lunch and those lads are working extremely hard to overcome these problems.

The music streams so effortlessly…and the search function is quite powerful and quick. The GUI is quite light and efficient. The founder of µtorrent, Ludvig, designed it so it had to be good! ;)

Again, be prepared to be bloody blown away.

[Update] Henrik calls it a 100 million ‘download software’ here(Swedish) and here(English)

Radioblogclub

I am quite impressed by France based radioblogclub’s muzic streaming services. Users can stream music directly from their site. They act as a middleman where other bloggers or folks who store their music online can link their muzic to radioblogclub’s site. Some sites even offer downloads from radioblogclub.

Ultimately for end users like me, I like the fact that the muzic streams so fast (with so-so quality) and once a song finishes, an automatic user generated playlist takes over.

But is this service legal? After all, aren’t they an aggregator of some kind?
